At the very start of the year, before we dove deep into the math world, I was introduced to optical art, which is a type of visual art that involves optical illusions. Some optical art makes it look like the image is spinning, or splits down into a long hallway. The math concept of optical art is that it uses many patterns to create an image. For my piece of optical art, I originally wanted to make the image look like it was an endless hallway, but as I was drawing the draft of the image, I couldn't make it look quite right, so then I decided to change the drawing and start drawing layers. One thing led to another, and soon I was able to create a piece of art that can give people different representations of what it is.

At a first look, the image portrays a room, but then when you take another look, the image has a gap in a middle, making the image look different. This piece of optical art shows my achievement in relating a math concept into art. Before this, I had never really thought that math could be involved in art, but the optical art helped me see that. Through this project, I learned how to keep an image in proportion when drawing, as well as being creative with my work and using different patterns to create my optical art.
