When you first think of English class, the first thing that would most likely come to mind is books and writing. That part is true, however, there's a lot more that goes into English class than just reading books and writing. A big portion of this year has gone into analyzing scenarios that occur in the novels that we read, and putting all of our ideas together into one essay. Out of all the essays that I have written this year, the one that showcases my best work is my expository essay from the novel, Unbroken. The novel tells the story of an Olympic athlete, who goes into World War II as a bomber, only to get stranded in the ocean and then captured by the Japanese. The essay itself was supposed to describe why the author, Laura Hillenbrand captured the story as one of a heroic man, and not a broken one.

The essay shows my best work because unlike all the other essays, this one had many different parts to it. Although the main character makes it out of the war, it wasn't an automatic happy ending, and when writing this essay, I really wanted to capture the struggle that occurred to put the days of war behind. I also wanted to show how finally, after years of pain, the main character finally finds peace within himself and regains hope in society. I believe that this essay combines many experiences and emotions, which adds to the overall feel of the essay, and is my best work of writing in capturing the heart of the novel into a piece of writing.

Logos are something that you can find basically anywhere. They are what makes a company recognizable; it's their trademark. In order to learn more about what goes into designing a logo and giving it meaning, we created our own logos for our "company." In my case, one of my classmates and I had created a film production company a few months prior to this project and saw that this was the perfect opportunity to create a logo for our film company. The design of this logo is very simple, but if you really look into the logo, there are deeper meanings. For example, the colors of the design all represent a different thing. Red represents being bold, while orange represents strength and endurance. These colors add into the meaning of the film company, which is meant to empower people through film.

This logo project shows my accomplishment in logo design and finding the hidden and deeper meaning in simple things like logos. I have seen a fair share of logos in my life, but I hadn't really looked into why the logos were designed the way they are. This project allowed me to be creative with designing a logo, but at the same time put thought into what I was doing. Through this project, I have become more aware in the thought process that goes into designing logos, which will definitely be something I look out for next time I see a logo.
